In addition to being an educational coach, Phyllis Gordon - a former English teacher and Reading Specialist- is now offering tutoring for Reading Comprehension and Writing Skills. Tutoring classes are designed for students in Elementary, Middle School, High School, and College.
WRITING SKILLS Phyllis teaches are:

- How to write a research paper
- How to write a college application essay
- Essays
- Proofreading, editing, and revision techniques
- Writing mechanics: grammar, punctuation, and spelling strategies
- Sentence and paragraph structure

- Descriptive Writing

READING SKILLS Phyllis teaches are:
- Active Reading
- Inferences and predicting outcomes in a book
- Decoding skills
- Comprehension techniques for test taking
- How to read and understand a novel and/or a textbook
- "Under the Surface" vs. "On the surface" reading
- Note taking
- Character Analysis
- Plot Develpment
All tutoring is 1:1. In addition to using her own teaching materials, Phyllis also teaches the above mentioned skills using the students' own books and materials. Phyllis can work with students on current reading and/or writing assignments that they are currently working on in school.
